David Yates was the seventh child of nine children born to  the proud parents, Douglas Yates and Girty Lee Edwards Yates on January 13, 1947 in Shepherd, Texas.

The family moved to Houston, Texas to raise their children in the Historic Community called "Kelly Courts" located in the Historic Fifth Ward, Texas.  David attended Crawford Elementary where he later transferred to Bruce Elementary.  From elementary school he went to E.O. Smith Junior High School and the legendary Phillis Wheatley High School, all in the Houston Independent School District.

David was married to Carolyn King and they had two daughters, Melanie LaRaye Yates and Stephanie Sheree Yates.

David worked for the Department of Sanitation, City of Houston for eight years.  After leaving there, he then worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Company as a Vending Machine Technician for over thirty-two years.  Due to illness, David retired from the Dr. Pepper Bottling Company in 2002.

Preceding David in death are his father, Douglas Yates; mother, Girty Lee Yates; four brothers, Guy Yates, Harold Yates, Samuel Yates and Walter Yates; two sisters, Ann Yates Jordan and Leola Adams.

David leaves to cherish his precious memories:

David Yates departed this life March 21, 2021. Visitation Saturday April 3, 2021, from 9-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Pleasant Hill B.C. 1510 Pannell St. Interment Paradise North Cemetery.
