Velma
Jones
Jul 20, 1954 — Apr 1, 2020
Velma Jean West was born on July 20, 1954 to the late Henry and Beatie West in Leon County. She grew up in the Hopewell community of Centerville, TX. Velma was the bouncing baby girl to her 10 older siblings.
She was baptized at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church. Later in life, she joined New Destiny Bible Fellowship Church. Velma received her high school diploma as a graduate of Oakwood High School before making the move to Houston. This is where she would further her education at Massey's Business College. From there she would go on to work for HL&P as a dedicated worker for years. She also worked for HP for 15 years before taking early retirement.
While furthering her education, she met her one true love, Mr. Nelson Jones. The two were married on November 27, 1974. To this union, three beautiful children were born. Nelson and Velma shared almost 32 years of happiness together before sickness called Nelson to his eternal home.
On April 1, 2020, after almost a year of fighting an illness, God saw that Velma was growing tired and weary, so He decided to take all her pain away. Her sudden passing brought sadness to the hearts of all of those who knew and loved her so dearly.
Mrs. Velma Jones leaves to cherish her memory her three beautiful children Demeitra Duffield (Belvis), LaKesha Jones, and Joseph Jones. Five beautiful grandchildren: Kiara, Kaila, & Kyla Duffield and Rihanna and Aaliyah Jones. One sister, Dorothy Hopkins, one brother Earnest West (Barbara), mother-in-law Rosaline Jones, sister-in-laws Rebecca (Sterling), Adeline (Herman), Mary, Faye, Betty, Linda, special nieces/sisters Essie (Lawrence) and Brenda, godmother Martha, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband Nelson, her parents Henry and Beatie, five brothers: Clemon, Willie, Daniel, Roosevelt and Jacob, and three sisters: Faye, Laura, and Carrie.
Velma Jones departed this life April 1, 2020. Visitation Saturday April 11, 2020, from 10-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Pleasant Hill B.C. 1510 Pannell St. Interment Paradise North Cemetery.
