The Life Legacy of
Alma Ruth Kelly
Alma Ruth Kelly was born in Houston, Texas on March 20, 1936. She was the third child of five siblings born to Edwin and Alma Davis. She was a proud St. Nicolas Catholic School graduate of class 1954. She started Texas Southern University in 1954 and majored in Music and then she earned her Master of Education in the year of 1964. She began teaching at St. Nicholas in 1958 after graduating with her Bachelors, where she taught for 2 years. Her next assignment was in HISD at Horn Elementary. She was a 2002 Teacher of the Year Nominee for outstanding achievement in the teaching profession. Alma retired after being an educator for 46 years. She was a long-time member of the Retired Teachers Association.
Alma accepted Christ at a very young age and was a devoted Catholic member of St. Benedict for over 50 years. She worked faithfully in various ministries such as CCD and head director of the church choir.
In 1958, while Alma's brother Thomas Earl was serving in the army, he asks his army buddy Bennie to go by and meet his parents. After meeting his parents and Alma, that's when Alma told Bennie to drop her a card in the mail to make sure he got back to camp safely. With that card Bennie and Alma started writing back and forth for six months that started a great relationship that lasted 62 years of marriage.
In her 'fun time' She was part of the "Bridge Club" and also known as "The Scrabble Queen". She was an organist and also enjoyed traveling the world with her loving husband Bennie. Together they have two loving children, Myron E. Kelly and Elliott G. Kelly. One thing she really enjoyed and that was "FAMILY TIME". Alma had a message that she would say too often and that message was...
"USE WHAT YOU HAVE TO GET WHAT YOU WANT"!! And she meant it!! She loves to see everyone excel to their highest potential.
Left in God's care to cherish her memories are her siblings, Ida Mae Jones (Bobby) and Kenneth Ray Davis (Patricia); Children, Benny L. Kelly Jr., Myron E. Kelly (Charlene) and Elliott G. Kelly (Valerie); Grandchildren; Myron E. Kelly II (Aura), Jordan K. Kelly, Rashaud J. Owens, Ty J.
