Obituary

Diana Arceneaux, née Narcisse, was born on August 21, 1953 in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was raised in Houston by her parents Vorhena Narcisse and Nelson Narcisse Sr.

Diana was the oldest of six, and is best remembered during her adolescence for her humor, being a great dancer and even greater protector — traits she carried throughout her 70 years of life.

Diana graduated from Furr High School in 1972, and afterwards, studied to become an LVN nurse.

She began her career in 1974 at Hermann Hospital in pediatrics. Nearly 20 years later, as she worked a full time job and raised three children, Diana fulfilled a longstanding dream to become a registered nurse after successfully completing her education at Lee College in Baytown, Texas in 1994.

In doing so, not only did Diana fulfill a dream, but she proved to her kids and all that loved her that with hard work, perseverance, strong faith in one's self, and most of all, in God, there is no goal in life that can't be achieved.

After working more than two decades at Hermann, she continued her life's work at St. Joseph Medical Center and The Woman's Hospital of Texas.

Former co-workers describe her as a ray of sunshine who brought laughter to every shift they worked together while others affectionately considered her as their work mom – someone just as invested in their care and wellbeing as that of their patients. Many of Diana's patients over the years still recall her kindness, her comfort, and sound advice she provided them as they began their motherhood journeys.

Diana retired from nursing in 2015, but continued to be the go to nurse for her family and all who knew and loved her.

A devout Catholic and staunch Christian, Diana deeply loved God and did her absolute best to live by the Christian virtues she believed in. If you needed a rosary, a scapular, or a prayer for any specific troubles, she always rushed to provide. She was charitable, she was kind, she was patient, and as she maintained her steadfast faith, encouraged others to trust that God will always make things right.

The strong conviction of her faith carried her through the best and worst of times and inspired so many of those around her.

Her final church home was Saint Benedict the Abbot Catholic Church.

Diana loved football, museums, gardening, politics, and had an insatiable appetite for learning about the world around her and all of the people in it.

She was also a fantastic baker whose cookies, pies, and teacakes gleefully filled the bellies of her loved ones.

Diana deeply loved her children and grandchildren and was a constant motivator to them as well as her siblings and others who routinely turned to her for solace.

She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in March and fought cancer with all her might. Carried by her faith, she never complained, maintaining throughout her battle that God is in control and stressed that no matter what happened, she would be okay.

Diana is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Theresa Narcisse, and her son Jason Arceneaux.

She leaves behind her husband, Wilton "Joe" Arceneaux, her daughter Kristina Arceneaux, her sons Michael Arceneaux and Marcus Arceneaux, and her grandchildren Alexis Arceneaux and Alyssa Johnson.

She is survived by her siblings Lois Gillum, Sheila Taylor, Nelson Narcisse Jr., Danny Narcisse, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Diana's passing has left a hole in the hearts of her loved ones, but as she always stressed to those that knew her best, whenever God did decide to call her home, she was heading to a better place where there is no pain, no fear, no doubt, and no worry.

As unthinkable as it is to continue life without her, she is now with God and would want those that loved her to take comfort in that, as painful as it is to see her go.

She will be remembered as a light to all that were fortunate to know her.

May her memory be a continued blessing.
