A Life Well Lived

Ernest Dennis Jr. was born on January 25, 1951, in Houston, Texas, to the late Ernest Dennis Sr. and ElZena Thomas Dennis, whose family roots were in Big Cane, Louisiana. Ernest was the fifth of seven children. From an early age, he developed a love for education, and sports—passions that would remain with him throughout his life.

Ernest was a proud graduate of Phyllis Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas. He continued his educational journey at Prairie View A&M University (74), where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education. His passion for athletics and his desire to make a difference in the lives of young people led him to a rewarding career in education.

Ernest began his teaching career with the Houston Independent School District at E.O. Smith. He later continued his dedication to education in the North Forest Independent School District, serving students at Tidwell Elementary School, B.C. Elmore Middle School, and Kirby Middle School.

Teaching was more than a profession for Ernest; it was an opportunity to encourage, inspire, and positively influence the next generation. His love for sports extended far beyond the classroom. Whether teaching physical education, participating in sporting activities, or refereeing games for various schools, Ernest always found a way to remain connected to the world of athletics.

Known as “Mane” and “Crash,” Ernest was married for seven years, and from that union, he was blessed with a daughter, Elonda, whom they nicknamed “Suga Mama.” His daughters, grandchildren, siblings, and extended family were all part of the legacy he leaves behind.

On Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Ernest “Mane” “Crash” Dennis Jr. departed this earthly life at the age of 75. Although his physical presence will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lessons he taught, and the lives he touched will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Dennis Sr. and ElZena Thomas Dennis; his sisters, Angelina Babineaux and Evelyn Claiborne; and his brothers, Leroy Dennis and Mose T. Dennis.

He leaves behind his daughters, Kamisha Foley (Sheldon) and Elonda Villaflores (Vanessa); his grandchildren, Courtney Prudhomme, TJ (Priyanka), Ke'Aeria Grayson (Dre), Kamari Grayson, and Kaiyō Villaflores; his sisters, Barbara Barrett and Linzolla Harris (Larry); along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, former students, colleagues, and dear friends.

Ernest's legacy will live on through the generations of family he leaves behind and the countless young lives he helped shape throughout his years as an educator.

Though his journey on earth has ended, his story continues through the love, laughter, and memories shared by those who were blessed to know him.

Rest Peacefully, Ernest “Mane” “Crash” Dennis Jr.
