Ivory Joseph Harris

Ivory Joseph Harris went from labor to reward Friday March 13, 2026. Ivory was 79 years old. Ivory was born to Wilbert and Lula Belle Harris on January 7, 1947 in Houston, TX. He graduated from Phillis Wheatley Senior High School. Ivory was affectionately known as “Bruiser” by his fellow football players and class mates.

Ivory was baptized as an infant by Reverend James Boyce at Pine Crest Presbyterian Church. He later became a member of New Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, and was also a member of the church choir.

 Ivory was employed at the City of Houston, and retired from PPG Industries. However, his passion was working as a well known and respected licensed barber for many years in the Fifth Ward community. Ivory was also an active member of the Phillis Wheatley Alumni, supporting numerous athletic team games and events, especially football, wearing his purple and white with “Wildcat” pride. 

Ivory was preceded in death by his mother Lula Harris, father Wilbert Harris, and brother Wilbert Ford. He leaves to cherish his memories his son Keith, his sister Evelyn Bell, many longtime friends, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members.

Ivory Joseph Harris departed this life March 13, 2026. Visitation Saturday April 4, 2026, from 9-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Pleasant Hill B.C. 1510 Pannell St. Burial Paradise North Cemetery.
