Janice Martin Walker, a native of Marlin, Falls County Texas, was born to Richard and Theresa Martin on March 1, 1932. She attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1950. In 1955, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Sciences from Texas Southern University, Houston Texas and later became a registered and licensed dietician from New York University.

Janice became a member of St. Mary's Missionary Baptist Church very early in life. She was a member of the Senior Choir, Parking Lot Committee, Usher board, and Senior Mission.

Professionally, Janice was one of Houston's first black dietitians to be employed by a large hospital after her appointment to the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians. Subsequently, she served as the Director of Dietetics at Ben Taub General Hospital for forty years and as an Instructor in Dietetics at Texas Southern University for twenty years.

Janice also served in many organizations and held offices in all of them, including but not limited to the B.T. Washington Alumni Association of Marlin, Texas; Top Ladies of Distinction, Inc (Sugar Valley Chapter) 5 th Ward Civic Club; Texan Young Men's Christian Association, as a board member; and was the 14 th Syntaktes of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc's Southwestern Region.

Mrs. Walker frequently traveled with Heavenly Matched Travel Ministry and her adventures led her to Africa, Asia, and Europe. Even though she was a jet setter, she kept Houston close to her heart as a season ticket holder for the Astros, Oilers, and the Texans.

Janice transitioned January 20, 2022 and her memories will be cherished by her nieces Jacqueline Martin Griffin, Paula Martin Kindle, Phyllis Sanders-Calvin, Bettye Gail Washington, Patricia Garrett; nephews Jay Sanders, Sr. (wife Wanda), Larry Washington, Terry L. Washington; extended family members Mary McClinton, Joyce Ann Cunningham, and goddaughter Paula Gordon; friend and soror Mattie Lewis, great-nieces and great-nephews, a host of other relatives and friends.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Honorable Carl Walker, Jr., her twin sister Janet Martin Sanders, brother-in-law John Sanders, brothers Billy and Gene Martin, niece Gwendolyn Ward, and great-nephew Ronald Dewayne Ward.
