Obituary

Lee Roy Peter Daniel was a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who went home to be with the Lord on September 9, 2025, in Vancouver, Washington, at the age of 81.

He was born on November 1, 1943, in Plaisance, Louisiana, to his parents, Clem and Lonias Daniel. Lee dedicated his life to honor, service, and family. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corp for 5 years, then spent some time at Monterey Peninsula College in California before continuing his military service in the United States Air Force for 15 years. He retired from the Air Force as a decorated Master Seargent in 1983, having served in Vietnam. Lee then went on to work 20 years with the Federal Aviation Administration and retired in 2003. During this time, he also worked hard to complete his associate's degree.

Lee met the love of his life, Nelly de Wilde, while he was stationed in Holland in 1966. They married in 1970 in Haren, Holland. Their love story stood the test of time, as they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. They have two children, Tiffany and Michael, and Lee was fiercely devoted to his family. He loved to be at his kids' activities and, later in life, his grandkids' sports events and dance recitals. After retirement, Lee and Nelly spent 10 years volunteering at Bush Intercontinental Airport together. They also attended Charis Bible College during which time they traveled to visit the Holy Land and went on a mission trip to Nicaragua. Lee loved sports, especially basketball and golf. He spent several years playing basketball as well as being a basketball referee and also coached several of his son's sports teams. In his later years, he enjoyed being out on the links working on his golf game and proudly volunteered at the Shell Houston Open PGA tournament.

Lee was recently described as "a wonderful Godly man," "the best of the best," and "such a legend." Each of these is a compliment that truly reflects the great man he was.

Lee was preceded in death by his mother, Lonias C. Daniel; father, Clem Daniel; sister, Rose Marie Daniel Mayes; brother, Joseph Leron Daniel; sister, Ivy D. Lee; niece, Doan Demonia Daniel; and his nephew, Kelly T. Daniel.

Lee will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Nelly Daniel; daughter, Tiffany Baker of Spring, TX; son, Michael Daniel (Angie) of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren, Austin Baker (Rebecca), Zachary Baker, and Chloe Baker, all of Spring, TX; Aurora Daniel, Dezmond Daniel, and Dawson Daniel, all of Vancouver, WA; his brother, Lawrence D. Daniel (Jeannie) of Arlington, TX; his godchild, Michelle Carroll (Louis) of Newport News, VA; his aunts, Edna Mae Charles and Vinell Charles of Jennings, LA; the de Wilde family of France, Holland, and Australia. His memory will also be fondly cherished by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
