Lennie (Linnie) Lee Horton, born on April 23, 1939, in Midway, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, in Houston, Texas, at the age of 86. She departed this world surrounded by the love and warmth of her family, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever remain in their hearts.
A retired nurse, Lennie dedicated much of her life to caring for others, both in her professional capacity and within her family. Her nurturing spirit and sharp mind were evident to all who knew her. Lennie was a cornerstone of her family, providing roots, knowledge, and strength—a glue that held her loved ones together. She loved having her family around her and was always ready to share her wisdom and warmth with those she cherished.
Beyond her professional life, Lennie was an artist at heart, finding joy and creativity in making jewelry. Her love for travel took her to various places with her family and friends, where she delighted in creating cherished memories. She was known for her sharp mind and keen ability to stay informed about her health and home, always ensuring she was on top of her game.
Lennie was a devoted member of the Highland Gardens Church of Christ, where she found community and spiritual nourishment.
Lennie is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Jane and Calvin Childress, her husband, Roland Horton, her daughter, La Verne Horton, her granddaughters, Latrice Horton and La Keysha Horton, her brothers, Calvin Childress, Jr., Willie Childress, and Ricky Childress, and her sisters, Della B. Washington and Joyce Childress.
She leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor her memory: her children, Larry Horton, Deborah Horton, Samuel Horton, Reginal Horton, Jennifer Graham, Kevin Horton, and Karen Haywood; daughter-in-law Francina Horton; sons-in-law Harry Graham and Kenneth Haywood; her sisters, Zorie Johnson, Emma Hughes, and Diane Ginikanwa with brother-in-law Andy Ginikanwa; and her grandchildren, Shawnta Mitchell, Rodric Horton, Cedric Horton, Terrance Horton, Earlyndria Horton, Jermaine Horton, Gerlice Horton, Jeremy Horton, Alexander Horton, Zachary Horton, Arianna Horton, Christopher Graham, Angel Horton, Anthony Horton, Diego Horton and Mister Larry Horton. She is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom carry forward her legacy of love and resilience.
Lennie's doors were always open to those in need, and she never hesitated to give her last to help her family. Her strong, loving hugs were legendary and conveyed the boundless love and warmth she carried within her heart. Her infectious, big lovable laugh could brighten the darkest days, and she had an uncanny ability to make people feel better, often offering comfort even when one didn't realize it was needed.
Lennie Lee Horton will be dearly missed by all who know her. Her presence was a blessing, her love a comfort, and her wisdom a guiding light. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and family unity that will endure through the ages.
Lennie Lee Horton departed this life July 6, 2025. Visitation Saturday July 19, 2025, from 9-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Southside Church of Christ 13835 Buxley St. Interment Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
