Marvin Odell Smith was born on August 13, 1962 to Annie Pearl Smith and George Jake Smith in the beloved city of Houston, Texas. He was one of seven children and was known for his charismatic personality since his youth.

Marvin attended Phillis Wheatley High School in the heart of Fifth Ward, Texas.  He graduated amongst his fellow students in the Class of 1980. Upon his completion, he fully immersed himself into a philosophy he is still known for today; Get things done!

Marvin attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Reverend. Harvey Clemons. He knew God as his Refuge and Sustainer. Marvin's life was a testament that no matter what storms you face, it is always important to still dance in the rain.

His ambition, diligence, and dependability made him a magnet for employment. His wit, humor, and charm drew out the deepest laughter from friends and family. He embodied the type of compassion that gave evidence of his own knowledge of struggle.

Marvin had immense passion for his family. He was vibrant, love to cut a rug and never met a stranger.  He fought many battles over the years trying to regain control over his health.

On January 28, 2024, Marvin took his final breath on this side. Although close loved ones are profoundly saddened by his passing, there is simultaneously a great relief to know he is no longer in pain.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and three siblings; Cheri Smith Caldwell, NaTasha Smith, and Beverly Smith Jones. He leaves behind his daughter - Dolores Jones, three grandsons - Marckeith, Kendrick, and LaVonte, three brothers - Lonnie Ross ,  George Smith Jr and Darrel Smith.

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Marvin Odell Smith departed this life January 28, 2024. Visitation Saturday February 10, 2024, from 9-11am. Funeral 11am. Services will be held at Pleasant Hill B.C. 1510 Pannell St. Houston, Texas 77020.
