Obituary for Mrs. Zenobia (Younger) Perry
Zenobia (Younger) Perry, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, GiGi, and Matriarch of the Perry family, transitioned peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the age of 88. She passed away at her daughter’s home in Anna, Texas, surrounded by the love and presence of her family. A woman of unwavering faith, quiet strength, and a heart that gave without limits. She was the living embodiment of Proverbs 31:10–31 — A Wife of Noble Character.
Born on July 27, 1937, in Grambling, Louisiana. Zenobia was the second of 8 children born to Leon and Mildred (Garner) Younger. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age as a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Grambling, LA. She graduated from Grambling High School in 1955 and began her studies at Grambling State University. Her life was anchored in God, family, and service — values she carried with grace throughout her journey.
On June 7, 1958, Zenobia married the love of her life, Albert Gene Perry. Together, they shared 49 beautiful years before his passing, raising five children — three daughters and two sons — in a home overflowing with love, laughter, and the joyful noise of family. Their home became the gathering place for generations: holidays filled with tradition, summers spent with grandchildren, and countless visits for conversation, comfort, and her unforgettable home‑cooked meals. A home that remains a symbol of togetherness and legacy.
She was a devoted member of Fontaine First Baptist Church for more than 45 years, faithfully serving on the Usher Board and as its Treasurer until her health began to decline. She exemplified the spirit of Psalm 84:10: “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” She attended services regularly for as long as she was able to drive, and even after she could no longer be present in person, she remained steadfast in her faith—listening to sermons and her favorite worship music and continuing to receive spiritual nourishment.
Her gifts were many. Her landscaping was meticulous and full of life. Her storytelling preserved the family’s history. Her handmade, one of a kind, garments exemplified her impeccable skill. Her cooking — especially her holiday feasts — was legendary. Her presence at every event, always smiling from the crowd, made each occasion feel complete. In her community, she was respected and adored; when Mrs. Perry spoke, everyone listened with love and obedience.
Affectionately known as “Momma Perry,” she cared for countless children in the community, nurturing them as her own. She also cared faithfully for her mother, her husband, daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law’s mother, and her brother, until their transitions.
Her legacy lives on in every holiday meal prepared with love, every flower blooming in the yard she once tended, and every family photo capturing the generations she helped shape. Her love was steadfast, her faith unshakeable, and her memory will forever be a blessing to all who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her five children, Belinda D. Perry Williams, Carlos L. Perry, Olemuel R. Perry (Valerie), Bonita R. Perry Ingram (Rodney), and Zenobia D. Perry Broussard (Arthur); seven grandchildren, along with bonus grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, along with bonus great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren, along with one bonus great-great-grandchild.
She is also survived by her loving brother, Levell Younger of California, and her loving sister, Vivian Perry of Georgia; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Harold and Mattie (Perry) Harrison of Louisiana; Darial and Drew (Perry) Smith, and Hayes and Demetrius (Perry) Dickens, all of Texas; and her sisters-in-law, Theresa Younger and Janea Younger, both of Louisiana.
She also leaves to cherish her memory a large and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her love and legacy.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Gene Perry; five siblings — Barbara Ann, Wendell Carl, Milton “SG,” Billy Ray, and Howard Donell; sisters‑in‑law Izora (Perry) Hill, Gustavia Ann (Perry) Woods, and Pearl Younger; brother‑in‑law Willie Gene Perry; daughter‑in‑law Bridgett (Jones) Perry; son‑in‑law Kenneth Williams; nephews Jamie Younger, Willie Perry, and Vincent Harris; niece Tewana Younger; great‑nephew John Matthew Tellis; great‑great‑niece Ava Grace Caraway; and her beloved great‑grandmother, Mama Clara (Coleman) Goldsmith.
