Obituary

Beatrice "Bea" Nash Gradney of Houston, Texas, passed away in her home on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

Bea was born on April 11, 1925, in Grand Chenier, Louisiana, to Emanuel and Agnes Sturlese Nash. She was the oldest of seven children.
Bea is survived by her son, Herbert Emanuel Jordan of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by two brothers: Lawrence (Bull) Nash of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Emanuel Nash, Jr. (Betty) of Walnut, California; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Bea is predeceased by her parents, Emanuel & Agnes Sturlese Nash; three sisters, Ella Nash, Goldie Nash Washington, and Mary Nash Moss; one brother, John Nash; and, husband, Henry Gradney.
Bea grew-up as an active member in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cameron, Louisiana, where she accepted Christ at an early age and expressed her love for Christ through her service and loyalty to God, Family and Friends. After moving to Houston, Texas, Bea became a member of Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church.
Bea was the owner/partner in Armstrong's Drug Store and Soda Fountain for a number of years. She was also employed by Samuel and Dorothy Crocker and became a family member speaking with high regard for Samuel and Dorothy as well as their daughter, "Little Dorothy."
Bea was an excellent seamstress. Bea's love and expertise as a seamstress afforded her the opportunity to create wardrobe designs for Mrs. Weingarten, Mrs. Frost of Frost Bank, and Mrs. Samuels, wife of Dr. David Samuels, and several other influential clients.
Bea was a relaxed, polite, and caring mother and friend with a warm personality and a great sense of humor. Bea was a very prideful woman who aspired to doing it the "perfect way." The love of her family and friends was the centerpiece of her life. Bea wore many hats: mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, confidant, and neighbor, and she wore them all well.
Bea's family extends sincere thanks and appreciation for the kindness and prayers of friends given during her illness. These memories of love so freely shown will light the path as we send her on her final journey into Heaven. The family also extends special thanks to her doctors, nursing staff, and Pamela Matthews, her caretaker and exceptional friend.
Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church, 4000 Sumpter Street, Houston, TX. Following the visitation, the Funeral service will begin at 9:00 a.m. Reverend Brian Fox will officiate.
